Market Currencies
Hillsdale Farmers’ Market Debit/Credit Tokens
Hillsdale Farmers’ Market operates a wooden token program where shoppers can purchase tokens with a personal debit/credit card to make market purchases. These HFM Black Tokens are available in $5 increments. All vendors accept these tokens as payment, and cash change is given. HFM Black Tokens have no expiration date.
How it works:
Visit the Information Booth to exchange debit/credit funds for HFM Black Tokens. There is a $2 processing fee applied to each exchange.
Tokens purchased at Hillsdale Farmers’ Market may only be used at our market and will not be accepted at other farmers markets. Likewise, Hillsdale Farmers’ Market does not accept tokens from other farmers markets.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides low-income households with benefits that they can use like cash at grocery stores and participating farmers markets, including the Hillsdale Farmers’ Market. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) administers SNAP, formerly known as “food stamps,” through its Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). Each state has its own electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card design, and in Oregon, they are called “Oregon Trail Cards.” SNAP funds are loaded onto your Oregon Trail Card. Learn more about SNAP in Oregon.
How it works:
SNAP participants can bring their Oregon Trail Card to the Information Booth to exchange their Card funds for market-specific SNAP Tokens, available in $1 increments. SNAP Tokens can be used as currency at eligible market vendor booths. No change is given for SNAP Tokens. SNAP Tokens have no expiration date.
Tokens purchased at Hillsdale Farmers’ Market may only be used at our market and will not be accepted at other farmers markets. Likewise, Hillsdale Farmers’ Market does not accept tokens from other farmers markets.
EBT Cash
Seniors that receive EBT Cash benefits can exchange their funds for $5 HFM Black Tokens. You are also eligible to participate in the Produce Match program! This program works exactly like Double Up Food Bucks – continue scrolling for details on that program.
If you receive EBT Cash benefits through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, these funds can be used to purchase $5 HFM Black Market Tokens, but they are not eligible for any match program.

Oregon Farm Direct Nutrition Program
All farm vendors selling fresh produce at the Hillsdale Farmers’ Market participate in the Oregon Farm Direct Nutrition Program (FDNP). Oregon FDNP is a state-administered, federal nutrition program serving income-eligible seniors as well as families enrolled in the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program. Learn more about Oregon WIC.
How it works:
Participants receive $4 Farm Direct Dollars vouchers in the mail to spend directly with authorized farm vendors. Farm Direct Dollars can only be used for fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables and cut culinary herbs. Items that cannot be purchased include dried foods, jams, honey, plants, or fruits/vegetables not grown in Oregon (such as bananas). Farm Direct Dollars can be used between June 1 and November 30 of the year in which they are received. No change is given for Farm Direct Dollars.
Unlike our other food access programs, the Hillsdale Farmers’ Market is not involved in the transaction, which is conducted between the FDNP and the farm vendor.
