Grapevine May 2 2010 Market
This Sunday is the first market of our weekly season. To kick off the season, we’ll be handing out vegetable starts starting at 10am. The table will be near the information booth.
We have two recurring events at the market this season. The Master Gardener program will be at the market the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month ready to answer your gardening questions. Kathryn Yeomans will conduct a monthly Market Chef session the 2nd Sunday of each month. Kathryn will be demonstrating several recipes and cooking techniques. We look forward to having both programs at the market this season.
Three vendors return to the market this week: Gee Creek Farm, Herr’s Family Farm and Salvador Molly’s. Look for more of your favorite vendors to return over the next few weeks.
See you Sunday,
Eamon Molloy
Market Manager
What’s Coming To The Market This Week?
There should be Seascape strawberries again this week. Greens of all kinds will be plentiful. Roots like carrots, turnips, radishes, onions and beets should be in good supply too. Wild greens like nettles and fiddleheads should be available for a few more weeks. Miner’s lettuce will be available as well but its season is winding down.
Check the availability list for the complete list of who’s coming this weekend and what they expect to be selling. The list is posted Thursday afternoon and updated through the weekend. For Sunday morning updates, check Twitter feed either on our website sidebar or on our Twitter page.

Cooking Ideas – Orzo and Asparagus Salad
We are in the middle of asparagus season, so let’s take advantage of it. This salad from Carrie Floyd at Culinate can be served as a side dish or as a meal itself. You can find Carrie’s recipe here (link). Enjoy!
Neighborhood News & Events
Nourishing Neighbors is a group of volunteers who work together throughout the year to help Neighborhood House’s Emergency Food Box Program.
