As we officially move into spring, more vendors are returning to the market. Linda Brand Crab, Salmon Creek Hydroponics and Sungold Farm all return to the market this weekend. Other regulars will be coming in the next month.

Many of you will recognize Kathryn Yeomans as the chef creating wonderful food samples in Springwater Farm’s booth this winter. Kathryn will be a regular at the market this season, sharing ideas and recipes for cooking seasonally. Kathryn will be in Springwater Farm’s booth this Sunday and has kindly shared a Fiddlehead Fern and Mushroom Sauté recipe with us below.

It’s Market Day at Food Front this Sunday. There’s free toast and coffee from 9am to noon and food demonstrations and sampling from noon to 3pm. If you get to the market before 10, why not stop by for some coffee and toast?

We are still on our twice monthly winter schedule. Our remaining winter market sessions are March 21, April 11 and April 25. Note that there are 3 weeks between this Sunday and the first market in April.

See you on Sunday,

Eamon Molloy
Market Manager

Cooking Ideas -Wild Fiddlehead Fern and Mushroom Sauté

Fiddlehead ferns are a sure sign that spring has arrived. The unfurled frond of edible species of ferns, this vibrant green vegetable is wild harvested from the wet woods. They are exciting because they are one of the first crisp green spring vegetables to turn up at the market, preceding asparagus often by several weeks. Some liken their taste to a cross between asparagus and okra, though they are distinctly flavored – very green and woodsy. Fiddleheads have a short season, so it’s best to have fun with this whimsical vegetable while it’s here. You can find the recipe here (link).
