The winds blowing during the last market were quite impressive. Thankfully it was sunny and the canopies could stay in the trucks. The sun made the cold temperature a little easier to deal with too. Thank you Ainsworth Elementary Choir and Robert Gray Middle School Panache for performing at the market and at the Chili Feed.

This weekend is the last market of the calendar year. We start up again on January 10, 2010. The remaining winter dates are: January 10, 24 February February 7, 21 March 7, 21 April 11, 25.

Thank you for your support in the past year. We couldn’t have a market without you. Have a good holiday.

See you on Sunday,

Eamon Molloy
Market Manager

What’s Coming To The Market This Week?

The cold weather really hit hard. Even the coast saw below freezing temperatures. Some crops took a big hit, others will recover over time. Greens for the most part will be limited. A few farmers have spinach and other greens in greenhouses and were able to keep the crops from freezing. The ground is finally starting to thaw out so there should be a decent selection of root vegetables this weekend. Winter squash, apples, pears and asian pears will be available. Greengable Farm returns to the winter market this week and will be bringing hardy kiwi along with their greenhouse flowers.

Linda Brand Crab and all the other crabbers are having a great start to the crab season. Pine Mountain Ranch will have a good supply of bison and chicken while Sweetbriar Farms will have plenty of pork. Draper Girls should have lamb and goat as well. As for eggs, Greenville Farms, Jacobs Creamery, Pine Mountain Ranch and Sweetbriar Farms will have eggs.

Check the availability list for the complete list of who’s coming this weekend and what they expect to be selling. The list is posted Thursday afternoon and updated through the weekend. For Sunday morning updates, check Twitter feed either on our website sidebar or on our Twitter page.

Cooking Ideas – Butternut Squash Soup with Apples and Nutmeg

Here is a hearty and delicious soup idea from Mitchell Davis (link) and posted by our friends at Culinate (link). I like the variations possible with this soup. And you can freeze it for later too. You can find the recipe here (link). Enjoy!
