Kookoolan Farms is back this Sunday for their once monthly visit to the market. They will have their usual array of products and will be taking orders for Thanksgiving. Pine Mountain Ranch is also taking Thanksgiving orders.

Eggs seem to be one of the more sought after items this summer at least if you go by the number of times the info booth volunteers are asked who sells eggs. We have a number of farms bringing eggs to market. Fraga Farms (organic), Greenville Farms, Kookoolan Farms, Pine Mountain Ranch and Sweet Briar Farms are all bringing eggs to market. You should be able to buy eggs from one of these farms.

Speaking of volunteers, we can always use a few more volunteers at the market. Volunteers are one of the market’s greatest assets. From running the information booth to setting up the market to assisting vendors, every part of the market’s operations runs on volunteer power. If you have a few free hours and want to help out, stop by the information booth and talk to Assistant Manager Leah Rutz.

I sound like a broken record but I-405 is closed southbound this weekend for repaving. You’ll need to take alternate routes if you normally use 405 to get to and from the market. Next weekend should be the last weekend for the repaving project.

See you on Sunday!

What’s Coming To The Market This Week?

You’ll find plenty of peaches, plums and nectarines this week. Apples are plentiful as well. Pears are starting to come in now as well. Berries of all kinds – blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries will be available as well. Grapes starting showing up in the market last week and you should find more this week as well. Melons (watermelons, cantaloupes, honeydews etc.) will be plentiful too.

As for vegetables, you will find plenty of corn, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, green beans, summer squash, kohlrabi, cabbage, cucumbers, onions and spinach. A few less common vegetables like bitter melon, black soybeans and fresh chickpeas will be available too.

Check the availability list for the complete list of who’s coming this weekend and what they expect to be selling. The list is posted Thursday afternoon and updated through the weekend. For Sunday morning updates, check Twitter feed either on our website sidebar or on our Twitter page.

Cooking Ideas – Pico de Gallo

It’s just raining tomatoes right now. There are lots of things you could do with the tomato bounty but sometimes the simplest things are best. Here is an easy pico de gallo recipe. While this recipe calls for an Anaheim pepper, feel free to change the pepper to as hot or mild as you want it. You can find the recipe here. Enjoy!
