Grapevine August 23 2009 Market
It’s hard to believe that school starts again in just a few weeks. At the market, it’s still high summer with peaches, melons, corn, green beans, tomatoes, and a lot more coming in.
Kookoolan Farms will be back next Sunday. Pine Mountain Ranch just received its poultry license and joins Kookoolan Farms as one of the few (less than 10) farms in Oregon raising and slaughtering poultry on the farm. We are fortunate to have both of them. Both farms are taking orders for Thanksgiving turkeys.
I-405 is closed northbound this weekend for repaving. You’ll need to take alternate routes if you normally use 405 to get to and from the market.
See you on Sunday!

The peach harvest is booming. You’ll find plenty of peaches and many varieties too. Apples are plentiful as well. Berries of all kinds – blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries will be available as well. Melons (watermelons, cantaloupes, honeydews etc.) will be plentiful too.
As for vegetables, you will find plenty of corn, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, green beans, summer squash, kohlrabi, cabbage, cucumbers, onions and spinach. Herbs like basil, cilantro and dill will be plentiful too.

Cooking Ideas – Peach Catsup
Connie Rawlings-Dritsas of Blossom Vinegars has many great recipes on her site. I’ve seen and tasted berry catsup but not peach catsup. I can’t wait to try her recipe (link) this weekend. Enjoy!
