Ayers Creek Farm Newsletter August 30 2009 Market
We will be at the Hillsdale Farmers’ market this Sunday. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are at the most frantic point in our season, so we will just stick with the basics again.
Berries
Chester
Plums
Seneca, a lovely prune.
Table grapes
Sweet Seduction.
Cucumbers
Preserves
The selection is getting thin, but we still have loganberry, red currant and Italian prune.
Garlic & Shallots
Pole Beans
They are beginning to produce. We will have some classic southern beans, Greasy Grits and Honeycutt Pioneer Cutshorts. They are small beans typically grown by gardeners. Flavor is excellent. “Greasy” beans have a smooth skin, hence the name. Cutshorts have the seeds packed so tightly they are squared off, as opposed to round or kidney shaped beans.
New Potatoes
Frumento
Fava di Carpino
Summer Squash
Both crookneck and costata romanesco.
Karela (bitter melon)
See you all Sunday.
